My mother said seeing a redbird is a sign of good luck

and also means you are going to see someone

you haven’t seen in a long time

after seven days of rain and relentless wind

how fortunate sitting here today on the greening earth

among the things of the world and how they grow

the rush and blur of man and machine the cries

and high among the breathing branches

washed in the growing light of days end

a redbird and his song of no beginning no end

ushering in this season of resurrection
