A wonderful chance to get together and renew our commitment to practice for the New Year. Join the community for traditional informal noodles in the Sangha house. At exactly midnight following a short period of zazen to close the year, everyone will get a chance to ring SMZC's great bell 108 times to welcome in the New Year of the Tiger. Bring a small piece of paper inscribed with any Karmic hindrances you wish to burn away during the ceremony. Refreshments offered following the ceremony.

Open to fully vaccinated. Please sign our covid waiver if you have not done so. (NOTE: Due to current Covid restrictions and protocols, we are limiting the number of on-site event participants in order to ensure health and safety.)

Dharma talk will be given by Jakusho Kwong-roshi, founding abbot of SMZC, following 10:30 am zazen. Our last Saturday Community in 2021 until next year!

On-Site Attendance Limited to 17 Registrations: We are open to the fully-vaccinated public with limited Zendo capacity. Sign our covid waiver (first time only). Free pre-registration is required to attend Saturday Community.

Nature Scavenger Hunt & Mochi Decorating

 

Register your children to partake in on the kid’s day. This mindful activity connects kids with the natural elements of earth through the senses of touching, seeing, smelling and hearing. We’ll finish with a fun, yummy mochi snack to decorate in honor of Christmas.

Modified schedule from Friday, December 10 to Wednesday, December 15. Led by Genzen Ed Cadman and Shindo Kevin Souza. SMZC will be closed from December 16 to 30 for a winter break. There will be no on-site or online programs during the winter break.

Outdoor, Nature Scavenger Hunt & Mochi Decorating! Register your children to partake in on the kid’s day. This mindful activity connects kids with the natural elements of earth through the senses of touching, seeing, smelling and hearing. We’ll finish with a fun, yummy mochi snack to decorate in honor of Christmas.

Taylor Tessendore, Host: Taylor is a child therapist and emotional wellness child coach who has studied mindfulness meditation practices for a decade. She holds a Master's of Science in Marriage, Family, and Child Therapy. She is passionate about integrating interpersonal neurobiology, Buddhist psychology, somatic experiencing, and meditation into her work. For the last fifteen years, Taylor has mentored, taught, and counseled culturally diverse children in school settings. She is deeply connected with her purpose to share the power mindfulness meditation has in transforming and positively impacting a child’s well-being.

Currently, Taylor lives in Santa Rosa where she’ll begin training towards Registered Children’s Yoga Teacher to bring the practices of yoga to children and teens.
