Senior Student talk will be given by Kaian (海安) John Jennings, senior student of Kwong-roshi and ordained priest. In the spring of 2002, Kaian came to Sonoma Mountain and become a student of Kwong-roshi. In 2007 he received the precepts from Kwong-roshi. In 2008 he served as Shuso (head student) for the Winter Ango. In 2012 he was ordained as a priest. He lives on Cobb Mountain in Lake County, California with his wife, Lia, his 3 grown children, and 9 grandchildren—not in the same house but within a few miles of each other. He has co-facilitated meditation at Harbin Hot Springs in Middletown, CA. He is an artist and musician and active in both capacities in his community.

Tenth Talk: Suffering Is a Valuable Thing (Page 135–146)

 

An opportunity to explore the fundamental teachings of Buddhism and build a foundation for daily practice through discussions on the book "Branching Streams Flow in the Darkness: Zen Talks on the Sandokai" by Shunryu Suzuki-roshi. This 12-week course occurs every Tuesday from 7:30 to 9:00 pm PST.

 

$12/week. Register to attend each week online or on-site. On-site attendance limited to 10 registrations.

Daily Meditation Schedule

You are welcome to sit one period of zazen as your schedule permits. Participate in the daily schedule as much as you are able. Continuous daily practice helps strengthen your resolve. If attending partially, please leave or enter during kinhin (walking meditation). Download daily sutras to partake in the service.
