🧘‍♀️ Join Us This Week for Zen Meditation Retreat, Zen Teaching by Roshi & Buddhist Study Group

 

 

THIS THURSDAY: Bodhidharma 3-Day Sesshin

Sesshin, literally “to touch the Mind,” is a period of time set aside for an intensive meditation retreat to let go of the conditioned self and resume our original nature. This special time of practice will allow us to dive into the core of Zen training. A silent meditation intensive to still the mind from moment to moment, manifesting the realization of the Way; for beginners as well as experienced practitioners. A rigorous schedule that begins at 5:00 am includes 11 periods of meditation, chanting, mindful work, and a Dharma Talk. Days end at 9pm.

 

Retreat begins Thurs, October 3, 2024 at 7:30pm and ends Sunday, October 6, 2024 at 4:00pm. View Sesshin Schedule

Partial or Day Practice Available: You are welcome to attend partially as long as you can close with us on Sunday. Day practice without staying overnight is also available.

THIS SATURDAY: Saturday Community Talk by Kuun

Dharma talk will be given by Jakusho Kwong-roshi, following one period of zazen. Open to the public.

 

  • No mediation instruction is offered during the sesshin this Saturday.

  • If you live within driving distance, please register to attend on site!

  • Oryoki lunch will be provided for sesshin participants only.

  • Zen Dust Store will be closed this Saturday.

 

About Speaker

Jakusho Kwong-roshi is the founder of Sonoma Mountain Zen Center - Genjoji temple, authorized by the Sotoshu in Japan. He is a successor of the late Shunryu Suzuki-roshi’s lineage. Kwong-roshi travelled and taught throughout America and Asia as well as Poland and Iceland where Zen practice places have been established. Also he has deep connections with the Theravadin, Shambhala/Drala Mountain Center, Rinzaiji, Soen-Korean Zen with Christian Carmelite and Benedictine traditions. He had the good karma to meet all the great Asian teachers who came West. His publications include Mind Sky: Zen Teaching on Living and Dying, No Beginning, No End: The Intimate Heart of Zen, and Breath Sweeps Mind. Jakusho continues to deepen his insight prior to the present to share with many international sincere people.

JOIN US THIS FRIDAY: Fall Temple Stay

During a temple stay, visitors can rest in the calm, restorative environment of Sonoma Mountain Zen Center. A stay at our center is a unique retreat into a spiritual sanctuary surrounded by natural beauty. We are located in the heart of Sonoma County, overlooking the Valley of the Moon on the northern slope of Sonoma Mountain. This rural setting is filled with redwood forests, oak groves, and sweeping vistas. During your stay, you can join in the meditation periods, services, and communal meals of our daily temple life or spend time alone reading, writing, or hiking. In addition to walking trails on our grounds, North Slope Regional Park and Jack London State Park are a close driving distance from the center.

Talk will be given by Kuun (空雲) Dmuchowski, following 10:30 am zazen. The talk will be given on Zoom from Poland in English. Open to the public.

 

 

About Speaker

Born in 1958, Kuun has been studying Zen under Jakusho Kwong-roshi since 1988 and received transmission in 2019. He is a senior student and one of the founding members and teachers of the Kannon Sangha in Poland. Kuun means the Empty Cloud. Empty is full of possibilities, not distinct, not separated, blinking.

Kuun lives and works in Warsaw, Poland as a group psychotherapist and supervisor. In his therapeutic work he integrates psychodynamic, existential and interpersonal approaches. He trains and supervises psychotherapists, trainers and coaches. He is a founder of Postgraduate Group Psychotherapy Studies in Laboratorium Psychoedukacji, Postgraduate Coaching and Mentoring Studies, and Postgraduate Group Trainers Studies in LP and SWPS University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Warsaw, Poland. He is an author of several postgraduate courses and lectures about psychotherapy and group dynamics.

He was a member of the Polish Psychological Association’s Psychotherapeutic Certificates Committee. He is also an international expert in the Training Accreditation Committee at the European Association for Psychotherapy.
